residences where there were no toilets. The projects also included construction of Sulabh Shauchalay Complexes for commuters, floating population, rickshaw pullers, pavement dwellers and for such households which do not have
space for individual toilets or cannot afford to have them. Schemes for training and rehabilitation of liberated scavengers and their wards formed as an integral part of these projects. It also prepared projects for establishing
training facilities for the liberated scavengers and their wards in a number of States.
The Academy has prepared a number of projects for construction, operation and maintenance of community toilets with bath, laundry and urinal facilities for various authorities. The Academy has prepared designs of Sulabh Shauchalayas,
maximizing the use of local skills and materials in a wide cost range. The objective was to satisfy the needs of the communities of different economic levels as well as suiting to their socio-cultural habits and attitudes.
By giving designs of varying costs, the beneficiary has the advantage of choosing a design which is affordable and suits him the best.
